Durban City Cement Top Spot, Spurs Sink To Drop Zone

Motsepe Foundation Championship log leaders Durban City have pulled four points clear at the top of the table after claiming a 1-0 victory over Kruger United courtesy of a Joslin Kamatuka goal at Chatsworth Stadium on Friday.
The Durban-based outfit has accumulated 34 points after 17 league outings. Meanwhile, second-placed JDR Stars suffered a setback in their automatic promotion ambitions as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat away to Casric Stars.
In Rustenburg, Orbit College played out to a 1-1 draw against Upington City, who made it four draws in a row and 11 games winless to remain in 12th place. Coach Brandon Truter is still searching for his first win in charge of the club.
In the mid-table, Hungry Lions returned to winning ways with newly promoted side Highbury’s scalp after a 3-1 win at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium on Saturday and moved up to eighth place on the second-tier standings.
University Of Pretoria claimed the bragging rights in Tshwane, edging city rivals Pretoria Callies 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from Kgomotso Mosadi at Tuks Stadium. Amatuks ascended to seventh place and 10 points behind the leaders.
On the other hand, Leruma United registered their first win since October with a slender 1-0 upset of Black Leopards at TUT Stadium. The win saw the rookies snap a nine-game winless streak but remain rooted at the bottom of the table.
Venda FC claimed an impressive 5-1 victory over Baroka FC at Thohoyandou Stadium, a result that saw them climb out of the relegation zone with 15 points collected. Judas Moseamedi, who’s known for his goal-scoring prowess against Kaizer Chiefs, was on the scoresheet for the Vhembe club.
Following their relegation from the Betway Premiership last season, Cape Town Spurs face a daunting possibility of suffering back-to-back relegations as they dropped down to 15th place following their 2-2 draw against Milford FC at Athlone Stadium.
The Urban Warriors are level on points with Venda FC but have an inferior goal difference after the Limpopo-based team thumped Baroka. Spurs will travel to Thohoyandou to face Leopards, who will be desperate for a win after being on the end of a shock defeat.
