England And Denmark Slog Out A Disappointing Draw

England and Denmark played out one of the poorest games of the European Championship at Frankfurt Arena on Wednesday.

England, despite being one of the favorites, remain atop Group C after a lackluster draw.

Gareth Southgate’s side took the lead early on through Harry Kane, who tapped in from close range in the 18th minute for his first goal of the tournament. However, England never truly controlled the game despite scoring first. Denmark responded with urgency, testing Jordan Pickford on several occasions before finally finding an equalizer in the 34th minute. Midfielder Morten Hjulmand unleashed a long-range effort from 28 meters that cannoned off the post and into the net, marking the first goal conceded by England in Euro 2024.

The first half ended with possession almost evenly shared, but the English defense looked shaky throughout the opening 45 minutes.

Southgate made a substitution 10 minutes into the second half, bringing on Conor Gallagher for Trent Alexander-Arnold to bolster the midfield. He later opted for a triple substitution, withdrawing the entire front three of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, and Harry Kane for Jarrod Bowen, Ollie Watkins, and Eberechi Eze in an attempt to inject fresh legs and trouble the Danish defense. However, these changes failed to spark England, who continued to struggle throughout the match.

Neither team managed to find a winner as the final whistle blew. Artur Soares Dias ended the encounter with a draw, leaving both nations sharing the spoils in their second Euro Championship game.

Despite England’s underwhelming performance, this result sees them lead Group C with four points, while Denmark sit in second place on two points, ahead of Slovenia on goal difference.
