Hotto Stresses Uncertain About Chiefs’ New Signings Ahead Of Soweto Derby

Orlando Pirates versatile player Deon Hotto has acknowledged that Kaizer Chiefs’ recent signings have added an element of uncertainty to their preparations for the upcoming Soweto Derby.

Chiefs signed Thabo Cele, who they have been tracking for a while, Tashreeq Morris from SuperSport United, and Congolese striker Glody Makabi Lilepo from French club Valenciennes, on Monday.

However, this has brought a surprise element to Pirates, who are now playing a guessing work if they will be fielded in the Soweto Derby against Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates might have an idea of Morris at SuperSport, but Cele and Lilepo provide an element of surprise to them.

However, Hotto, who has been ever present in the side, is banking on his technical team to prepare them thoroughly against these players.

“I saw the three new players, I saw the one from SuperSport, the striker, very good one,” said Hotto.

“He is a hard worker. The other two I really don’t know them. It does change the dynamic of the approach also.

“But I know, with the technical staff that we have, I know they are digging deep to try to get clips of those guys so that we just be prepared on what is coming for the weekend from those two guys. Because the other one (Morris), I know.”

Hotto has been a key player for Pirates this season, featuring in 26 matches across all competitions and contributing four goals and four assists. He has demonstrated versatility, playing in various positions, and is likely to start at left-back in the sold-out Soweto Derby against Chiefs on Saturday.

Hotto emphasized his strong bond with coach Jose Riveiro and his unwavering commitment to the team.

“For me, how can I put this, it is just that I’m dedicated to what I’m doing,” said Hotto, who has played against Chiefs 21 times, won eight and lost nine times, and scored one goal in his career.

“So, I always try to give my level best – it doesn’t matter where I play. That relationship between me and the technical staff is a good relationship.

“Imagine if the coach is telling me ‘You are going to play as a striker today’ and then I say to the coach ‘What do you mean I’m going to play as a striker?’.

“By doing so, I’m breaking my relationship because I need to put the club first, so it is just that relationship between me and the technical staff.”
