Hunt On Jurgens: A Player We’d Obviously Want To Keep

Durban City coach Gavin Hunt addressed questions around Kyle Jurgens’ future after a solid display from the 22-year-old thus far.
Jurgens joined Durban City from fellow Betway Premiership side, Stellenbosch FC, on a season-long loan deal.
The midfielder has been an integral part of City’s plans this season, with 10 appearances in all competitions thus far.
The Cape Town-born midfielders’ solid displays at the Durban-based side have raised questions around their future, with some suggestions that the Betway Premiership newcomers may be interested in keeping them permanently.
“Yeah, those things are not for me to, I mean, we’ve only played 10 games now, 11 or 12 in[with] the cup, so I don’t think we can really start talking about that,” Gavin Hunt on the possible acquisition of Jurgens permanently.
The four-time PSL-winning coach chose to remain cautious on any suggestions of Jurgens staying put at Durban City beyond this campaign.
“But yeah, obviously a player, when you bring a player like that, but I’m not sure all the clauses and that, I wasn’t really involved in that. But yeah, he’s done very well for us. Today [on Saturday’s loss against AmaZulu] wasn’t his best. I’ve seen him play better, but in saying that, yeah, a player we’d obviously want to keep if we had the opportunity,” added Hunt.
“Jurgens’ move forms part of the Club’s ongoing commitment to supporting player development, and it is hoped that he will gain additional game time and experience in KwaZulu-Natal,” read Stellenbosch FC’s statement confirming Jurgens’ temporary switch to Durban City in August.
This points to the midfielder’s future still being open, having made 51 first-team appearances for Stellenbosch, as his parent club has shown no signs of discarding him.
It remains to be seen if the midfielder’s future lies in Durban or elsewhere, but Hunt will be hoping he continues helping the Betway Premiership newcomers on all fronts this season.
