KZN Premier’s Cup Fixtures Confirmed: Defending Champions Richards Bay Face Tough Route
The fixtures and venues for the upcoming KZN Premier’s Cup pre-season tournament have been officially locked in, with defending champions Richards Bay FC facing a highly competitive route to retain their crown.
Action kicks off on Saturday, 24 July, at the Princess Magogo Stadium with three high-stakes playoff and quarter-final encounters. Lamontville Golden Arrows will get the tournament underway against newly promoted side Milford FC in the opening match. Immediately following that fixture, the newly rebranded Durban City will clash with top-flight rivals Richards Bay.
The Saturday itinerary concludes with a standalone quarter-final fixture between AmaZulu FC and regional qualifiers Midlands Wondrous. Due to the tournament draw structure, both AmaZulu and Midlands Wondrous received a bye past the initial playoff phase, advancing straight into a direct shootout for a final spot.
To prioritize player safety and avoid pre-season fatigue, tournament organizers have confirmed that no extra time will be played in the event of a draw, with matches proceeding directly to a penalty shootout. Additionally, teams will be permitted to utilize up to seven substitutes per match to prevent player overload.
Richards Bay enter the tournament as the defending champions, having lifted the KZN Premier’s Cup trophy for the first time in their history last year.
