KZN’s Isukile Talent Search Just Uncovered Zululand’s Next Big Stars
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture’s Isukile Integrated Programme made a significant impact in the Zululand District when it was hosted at King Bhekuzulu High School in Nongoma over the weekend.
As one of the department’s flagship grassroots development initiatives, the Isukile Talent Search programme is designed to identify, nurture and develop young talent in both sport and the creative arts.
The programme aims to provide opportunities for young people in rural and township communities by creating platforms where they can showcase their abilities and potentially progress to higher levels of competition and performance.
Young people from across the Zululand District seized the opportunity to display their talents in a variety of sporting and artistic disciplines. On the sporting front, participants competed in netball, football, chess and indigenous games, demonstrating skill, determination and a strong competitive spirit.
The programme also celebrated the rich cultural heritage and creativity of the province through a range of artistic performances. Aspiring performers entertained audiences with traditional ingoma, maskandi music, poetry, kwaito and gqom, while young hip-hop artists showcased their lyrical abilities and stage presence.
The Isukile Talent Search is more than just a competition; it is an initiative that brings opportunities directly to young people in their own communities. By meeting them where they are, the programme removes barriers to participation and allows talented individuals to be recognised without having to travel far from home.
The event in Nongoma highlighted the abundance of untapped talent that exists within the Zululand District and reinforced the importance of investing in youth development. Through programmes such as Isukile, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture continues to empower young people, helping them realise their potential and opening pathways to future success in sport, arts and culture.
For many participants, the weekend was not only a chance to showcase their talent but also an opportunity to dream bigger and pursue their ambitions with renewed confidence.
