“Like A Dream”: Plaatjies On Historic Debut Hat-Trick For Stellies

History-maker Quwan Plaatjies admits he is at a loss for words after becoming the first player in Premier Soccer League (PSL) history to score a hat-trick on his top-flight debut.
The 20-year-old Stellenbosch FC academy product achieved the unprecedented milestone during Stellies’ 3–1 Betway Premiership victory over Marumo Gallants at Athlone Stadium on Friday.
How the Historic Goals Unfolded
- 13th Minute: Plaatjies opened his senior account with a composed, finessed finish into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
- 28th Minute: He met a pinpoint cross from fellow academy graduate Raoul Daniels to double the lead with a power header.
- 54th Minute: He sealed his treble—and entered the PSL history books—by heading home another precise delivery from Daniels.
“It feels like a dream come true,” Plaatjies said on Stellenbosch FC’s social media platforms.
“I was nervous when I stepped onto the field. After the game started, I gained confidence and just played my game.
“The first one, I already knew I would tuck it in. With the second one, I put my head on it and saw the goal.
“With the third one, I had already seen the goal, and the hat-trick… I can’t believe it. Thank you to my mother, my granny, my sister, my parents and my family.
“I feel very good. I don’t have the words to describe it. All I can say is that I feel very good.”
When substituting Plaatjies late in the match, Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt cracked a rare smile—a notable moment for a manager known for his demanding standards and relentless drive for goals.
With his debut treble, Plaatjies moves straight to the top of the early Betway Premiership scoring charts alongside AmaZulu forward Thando Ngwenya.
Stellenbosch FC return to league action on 26 August when they travel to face Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium.
