Middendorp Returns To City To Resume His Role

Legendary coach Ernst Middendorp has returned to Durban City to resume his role as technical director.
Middendorp had stepped away from the position after just three months, having been appointed during the off-season.
His initial tenure coincided with Gavin Hunt’s spell as head coach, a period during which there were reports of differing views between the two regarding the club’s direction.
However, chairman Farook Kadodia clarified that Middendorp successfully fulfilled his mandate during that time, particularly after Durban City earned promotion at the end of last season.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach was tasked with putting the club’s football structures in place and laying a solid foundation for the future.
Following Hunt’s dismissal earlier this month, Durban City moved quickly to appoint Sinethemba Badela as his replacement in what was a surprise decision by the Durban-based side, announced on Friday.
Middendorp has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Kadodia, having coached the club — previously Maritzburg United, before its rebranding as Durban City — on four separate occasions.
He has also been credited with rescuing the team from relegation on more than one occasion when they were under severe pressure, further cementing his status as a trusted figure at the club.
Given his history and contributions, Middendorp remains a valued presence at Durban City and continues to enjoy the full support of the club’s leadership.
Durban City, currently seventh on the Betway Premiership standings with 22 points, are now preparing for the resumption of league action in late January following the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
