Mokoena: Mofokeng, Adams, Appollis, Mbatha Are The Future Stars
Bafana Bafana midfielder Teboho Mokoena says it is important as senior players to welcome young players like Relebohile Mofokeng in a good way because they are the future of Bafana Bafana.
Jayden Adams and Oswin Appollis started playing for Bafana Bafana in 2023 while Mofokeng and Thalente Mbatha started this year. Adams and Appollis were part of the Bafana squad that claimed in the 2023 AFCON that was delayed this year in Ivory Coast.
The other young player in the AFCON squad is Thapelo Maseko from Mamelodi Sundowns. The former SuperSport United speedy-winger managed to score at least one goal in Ivory Coast.
Mokoena believes that these young players are the future of the country, so it is important for them as senior players to welcome them very well.
“We must welcome them and open our hands because they are the future of the country, the future of this team,” Mokoena said.
“One thing about us like I said, we are a family, we are brothers, we are friends. I think even the first day when they arrived here we welcomed them in a good way, not only Rele [Mofokeng] but Oswin [Appollis] and Adams.
“Even Thalente [Mbatha], we welcomed them in good hands because we know they going to help us in the future and even now.”
Meanwhile, these young players have helped Bafana Bafana to qualify for the AFCON 2025 which will be hosted in Morocco.
Appollis and Mbatha contributed a lot in Bafana Bafana in the match qualifiers as they both scored two goals each.
Bafana Bafana will face South Sudan at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday (18:00) in the last game of the AFCON qualifiers. Only Maseko and Adams will be not available in this game as they are both sidelined in the Bafana Bafana squad this time.
