Mokoena Warns Esperance Of ‘Guns Blazing’ Semi Final Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Teboho Mokoena, is fired up and ready for the first leg of their Champions League semifinal clash against Espérance on Saturday.
Sundowns enter this fixture having played a whopping 17 more games than Espérance this season. While this raises concerns about fatigue for the Brazilians in Tunisia, Mokoena views the additional playing time as a positive.
“For us, playing more games than Espérance doesn’t give them an edge,” Mokoena asserts. “The more we play, the better we become as a team and the more rhythm we gain.”
Mokoena, who scored in a 2-2 draw against Moroka Swallows on Monday and tweaked his muscle injury and appears to be fit now, also acknowledges Sundowns’ recent dip in form despite securing positive results. “We haven’t been at our best in the past few games, but we’ve managed to pull through in the last three,” admits the Bafana Bafana star.
He references Ronwen Williams’ heroics in the penalty shootout against Young Africans in the Champions League quarterfinals, highlighting their reliance on luck at times. “So, I think we are ready for tomorrow and everyone is looking forward to the game especially last year we lost in the semifinal. So, this year we must take it a step higher, which is going to the final so tomorrow. It is gonna be guns blazing,”
Espérance has confirmed a sell-out crowd for their match against Sundowns at Olympique Hammadi Agrebi Stadium in Rades.
