Nabi: Chiefs’ “Sauce” is Simmering

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, saying, “The sauce that we are cooking at the club is coming along very nicely.”

This comment came after Chiefs cruised past Chippa United with a 3-0 victory to reach the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Amakhosi, the record winners of this cup, secured the win with goals from Gaston Sirino, Inacio Miguel (penalty), and Pule Mmodi.

“We just need to add some ingredients, but we feel that the sauce that we are cooking is coming,” Nabi said on SuperSport TV after the game.

This performance marks an improvement for Chiefs compared to last season when they were knocked out in the round of 16 by Milford. Chiefs last won the Nedbank Cup in 2013 under coach Stuart Baxter, defeating SuperSport United in Durban. By reaching the quarterfinals, Chiefs join SuperSport United, Stellenbosch FC, Durban City FC, Marumo Gallants, and Orlando Pirates.

The quarterfinal draw will take place on Monday.

This win keeps Chiefs’ hopes alive of ending their trophy drought, having not won a major trophy since the league title in 2015. Their last domestic cup victory was the MTN8 in 2014.

“We work seriously,” added Nabi, whose side last reached the Nedbank Cup final in the 2018/19 season. “We have had some problems, but trust us, and I can assure you we will give 200 percent. And thank you to the fans who came to support us, and I love you so much. Honestly, I love them too much. There are some criticisms directed at me, but I still love them, no problem.”
