Nabi Praises Team’s Defensive Base
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi believes the team’s strong defense is an excellent foundation for success after they went a fifth consecutive match without conceding a goal.
The impressive streak continued on Saturday when Chiefs secured a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with a late winner from new signing Flavio Da Silva.
“This is positive from the team that we have played five games and still we have not conceded a goal and we kept the clean sheet,” Nabi said at the post-match press conference.
“I want to say congratulations to all the team first, and specifically to Brandon Petersen and also our goalkeeper coach. Yes, for the work he did with Petersen. I trust Petersen and I want to say congratulations for him and his coach.”
Da Silva, a Guinea-Bissau international who joined the Soweto giants with little fanfare, scored on his debut to send his side to second in the Betway Premiership standings.
The coach added that while there is still “a lot of work to be done,” the team is “coming along alright.”
Now with 13 points after five matches, Chiefs are set to face joint-leaders Polokwane City after the upcoming FIFA international break on 17 September.
The team will be hoping the break does not disrupt their current momentum.
