Nabi: We Don’t Have Quality Of Shabba And Doctor

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasradine Nabi has commended his troops for coming out tops despite going a man down while highlighting the gap in quality between his current squad and some previous Amakhosi teams.
Chiefs fought their way back into winning ways in the Betway Premiership after defeating Richards Bay 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday despite going a man down in the second half.
An early goal from Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez in the second half was enough to seal the three points, sending Chiefs to sixth place on the log.
Speaking to SuperSport TV in the pitch side post-match interview, the Chiefs gaffer argued that despite the victory, Wednesday’s performance was not a satisfactory reflection of the team’s objectives.
“No, it’s not like that. It’s not because we win the process is good but oh, no, this is Kaizer Chiefs. The objective of Kaizer Chiefs is very high. You know. I think uh, yes. I think mentally is good,” maintained Nabi.
Despite scoring two on the night, the Glamour Boys were unable to assert full dominance over the visitors, keeping the ball for minimal spans.
The Tunisian tactician further expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s consistency on the pitch, comparing the current squad with that of former players Doctor Khumalo and Siphiwe Tshabalala.
“Some moments in the game are good, but without consistency – if we are in the third zone, we need more work. I think the three points are very good for the club. Mentally is not easy. You play a half with 10, and it feels good but for the process no, it’s not like that [not good]. Its Kaizer Chiefs, Kaizer Chiefs. You remember Kaizer Chiefs before with Tshabalala, with Doctor Khumalo, this is a high level, it’s not like today,” reflected the former Young Africans coach.
The Soweto giants ended Wednesday’s clash with the Natal Rich Boys having registered a total of 18 goal attempts with five on target and just two converted.
Failure to convert goal-scoring opportunities has proved to be one of Chiefs frustrations since the beginning of the season.
The Chiefs boss reflected on this challenge attaching it to a few attributes including a lack of confidence from strikers not only at Chiefs but the rest of the teams in the league.
“Exactly, this is a big problem for this team, not only for this game. Maybe all the teams create too much opportunity without scoring, and maybe the confidence of the strikers or, I don’t know, the focus. But we work hard for the principle in the future.”
Having kicked off one of the busiest periods of the season with a home victory after a long international break, Amakhosi now shift their focus to another battle with a KwaZulu-Natal side as they are set to welcome Royal AM at the same this Saturday.
