Ncikazi Calls For Awareness As Pirates Eye CAF Knockout Spot

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has urged his players to remain vigilant as they prepare to face a determined CR Belouizdad in a crucial CAF Champions League Group C encounter at Orlando Stadium on Saturday (15:00).
The Buccaneers, currently lying second in Group C with eight points, need a win to secure their place in the knockout stages. However, they face a formidable challenge from an Algerian side eager to shake up the standings. Belouizdad, sitting on six points, could leapfrog Pirates with a victory, solidifying their knockout aspirations.
Belouizdad have springs in their steps after beating defending champions Al Ahly, who returned to the summit after beating Stade d’Abidjan 3-1 away on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the match, Ncikazi emphasized the importance of staying alert against Belouizdad’s direct and physical style of play.
“We are playing a difficult opponent, highly direct. They don’t hide their intentions of playing direct, playing from second balls, a crossing team,” Ncikazi explained.
Pirates enter the fixture with memories of their previous encounter still fresh. Mohau Nkota’s early brace had seemingly secured a comfortable win for the Soweto giants. However, introducing former Cape Town City star Khanyisa Mayo turned the tide. Mayo pulled one back for Belouizdad, and while he fell short of finding the equalizer, his impact highlighted the Algerian side’s resilience. Interestingly, it was Mayo’s first goal with the Algerian club.
Ncikazi knows the stakes are high and is determined to ensure Pirates impose their game while neutralizing Belouizdad’sstrengths.
“We just have to be on alert, be aware of their strengths while we are trying to impose our own game. It’s important that we perform playing at home so that we can make our supporters happy,” he added.
A win for Pirates would not only secure their progression but also maintain their strong form in front of their home crowd.
