Ngezana’s FCSB Draws Lyon In Europa League Round Of 16

Siyabonga Ngezana’s club, FCSB, has been drawn against French side Lyon in the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League.

The draw for UEFA’s second-tier competition was conducted at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday.

Ngezana’s club reached the Europa League round of 16 after overcoming Greek side PAOK in the playoff rounds on Thursday, with a 4-1 aggregate victory.

The Bafana Bafana and former Kaizer Chiefs defender came close to scoring in the second leg in Romania, but his attempt, deflected off his shoulder, was saved by the PAOK goalkeeper.

Additionally, in the lead-up to FCSB’s first goal, Ngezana rose high for a header, but his Italian teammate, Jurie Cisotti, bundled the ball home from close range in the 30th minute.

The second goal arrived nine minutes before the end of the game when David Miculescu scored, securing a 2-0 victory on the day and a 4-1 aggregate win, sparking celebrations on the bench and in the stands.

If FCSB wins the round of 16 tie against Lyon, a team featuring former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, they will face the winner of the match between Manchester United and Spanish side Real Sociedad.

FCSB has already played against Manchester United in the final game of the UEFA Europa League league phase, losing 2-0 at home.

The first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 will take place on 6 March, and the return legs will be played on 13 March.

The final of this year’s Europa League will take place in Bilbao, Spain.
