Pead On Joining Stormers: “A Massive Privilege”

Haashim Pead is relishing the opportunity to return home and represent the DHL Stormers, describing his move to the Cape club as a “massive privilege” ahead of the new season.

The Bo-Kaap-born scrumhalf has returned to Cape Town after switching from the 10bet Lions to join the Stormers, in a move that represents a significant addition for coach John Dobson ahead of the new campaign.

The move also fulfils what Pead wanted for his career. Having grown up watching the Stormers at DHL Stadium, he is now preparing to run out at the venue as a player, surrounded by family, friends and loved ones.

“What it means to be back home and play for the DHL Stormers is that it is a massive privilege,” Pead said.

“It’s my hometown. I grew up here and grew up going to DHL Stadium to watch the Stormers.

“To be back with the family, friends and loved ones is just a massive honour. First of all, to represent the DHL Stormers is a privilege, and it’s great to be back home.”

Pead will now turn his attention to helping the Stormers compete on two major fronts, with the United Rugby Championship and Investec Champions Cup both forming part of a demanding campaign.

The scrumhalf is determined to make the most of his opportunity and establish himself at a union he has long admired.

“We are going into the URC and Investec Champions Cup season, so hopefully I can give my best on the field so that we can achieve big things ahead,” he explained.

“For me, it’s about establishing myself and putting my best foot forward to achieve bigger goals and dreams.”

As a new arrival, Pead will now share the dressing room with Springbok greats such as Siya Kolisi and Cheslin Kolbe.

“To be back at such a prestigious union is exciting, as is thinking about what I and the team can achieve here. So, I’m definitely looking forward to a great season ahead,” he added.

With the excitement of returning home comes the opportunity to experience the famous Cape Town support from the other side of the touchline.

Pead urged Stormers fans to get behind the team in numbers as they embark on their campaign, believing the supporters can play an important role in helping the side achieve its ambitions.

For Pead, the journey has come full circle – from watching his hometown team from the stands at DHL Stadium to now representing the Stormers on the field, with the opportunity to create new memories of his own.
