PSL Gives Nedbank Cup New Date For Downs Vs Sekhukhune

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the rescheduled date for the Nedbank Cup quarter-final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United to be played on 28 March.

This match was initially postponed due to a scheduling conflict on 9 March. The South African Football Association (SAFA) had previously booked Lucas Moripe Stadium for the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

However, the PSL, responsible for venue bookings for cup competitions, had also confirmed the Sundowns-Sekhukhune match for the same location weeks earlier.

The conflict arose because the SA Under-17 World Cup qualifier was a free, daytime event, while the Sundowns-Sekhukhune match was a paid, evening fixture. The PSL chose to postpone the match to avoid potential gate revenue losses, as fans attending the free World Cup qualifier might have stayed for the later game without purchasing tickets.

“The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced the updated fixture details for the postponed Nedbank Cup quarterfinal fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United,” said the PSL statement.

“The highly anticipated clash will now take place on Friday, 28 March 2025 at Lucas Moripe Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 19:00.

“Tickets are available for purchase at TicketPro outlets nationwide for R60 each. Spectators holding valid tickets from the postponed match must visit the verification booth on match day to receive a replacement ticket. However, those who opted for a refund will need to purchase a new ticket.”

The winner of this match will face Kaizer Chiefs in the semi-final. Orlando Pirates, the defending champions, will host Marumo Gallants in the other semi-final.
