Durban came alive on 13 May as thousands of football supporters lined the streets to celebrate Durban City following their historic Nedbank Cup triumph.

The champions, who won the Keyona Cup by beating TS Galaxy 2-1 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 2 May, parade attracted large crowds from across the city, with residents and football fans gathering in large numbers to welcome home the newly crowned champions.

The atmosphere was electric, filled with excitement, singing, and celebration as the team proudly showcased the prestigious trophy during the victory procession.

The parade commenced at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College sports grounds, where the team trains, before proceeding through Cato Manor, West Ridge, and Warwick Avenue.

Supporters lined the streets waving flags, wearing team colours, and cheering on the players and technical team as the convoy made its way through the city.

A highlight of the celebration took place at Durban City Hall, where a photo session with the trophy was held.

Hundreds of supporters gathered outside City Hall to witness the historic moment and celebrate alongside the champions.

The parade then continued to Moses Mabhida Stadium, where jubilant fans welcomed the team in celebration of a remarkable achievement that has brought pride and glory to Durban.

eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba congratulated Durban City on their remarkable achievement and praised the team for inspiring the people of Durban.

“This victory is not only a proud moment for Durban City Football Club, but for the entire city. The team has demonstrated determination, discipline, and excellence throughout the tournament, and we are proud to celebrate this historic achievement with our residents. Today’s celebrations reflected the unity and passion that sport brings to our communities,” said Mayor Xaba.

The Mayor also praised the overwhelming public support shown throughout the day, describing the event as a powerful demonstration of unity, community spirit, and Durban’s passion for football.

Residents were commended for turning out in large numbers and creating a memorable atmosphere worthy of the champions.
