SA Star Making Waves In India

Former Cape Town City and TS Galaxy striker Wayde Lekay continued his red-hot goal-scoring form for his new club Churchill Brothers FC in their 2-1 win over Delhi FC in the I-League at Mahilpur Football Stadium on Friday.
The South African international opened the scoring for the visitors in the 18th minute with a strong right-footed shot inside the box before setting up his striking partner Trijoy Dias, who made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.
With back-to-back wins to boost their promotion quest, the Red Machine, as the club is known, has extended their lead at the top of the 12-team Indian second-tier standings to five points after accumulating 19 points in nine matches [W6 D1 L2].
Lekay, who signed for the Goa-based outfit in September 2024 after his spell with Swedish third-division side FC Trollhattan ended, has scored five goals and provided one assist in his last five league appearances.
The SuperSport United academy product fitted in like a glove, hitting the ground running as he has established himself as an integral part of the squad. Overall, he has racked up eight goals with two assists in nine league outings – starting all of his team’s matches.
The 27-year-old is having his best return in a single season, in contrast to the form he displayed in his native country where he scored seven goals in 48 appearances for TS Galaxy and a solitary goal in 14 games for the Citizens.
Lekay parted ways with City at the end of the 2022/23 season after a lack of game time under Eric Tinkler and found a new home in Sweden. However, before moving abroad, the center-forward was assessed by Kaizer Chiefs and Royal AM but both clubs opted against signing him.
