SAFA President Congratulates Amajita On World Cup Qualification
The South African Football Association [SAFA] President, Dr. Danny Jordaan, has congratulated the South African U20 national team, Amajita, on their historic achievement of qualifying for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
Amajita secured their spot in the tournament after a thrilling 1-0 victory over DR Congo in the quarterfinals of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt on Monday.
“This is another momentous occasion, coming so soon after we qualified for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, and the FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar from 3–27 November 2025,” Jordaan said.
Amajita’s coach, Raymond Mdaka, echoed Jordaan’s sentiments, highlighting the team’s determination and resilience.
“We used almost everything that we thought we had, technically, tactically, physically, and in terms of character,” Mdaka said.
“You could see they had a very good plan for us, but we were fortunate not to concede in the first half and the second half.
“We sorted it out, and then we at least came back and were able to get a goal and protect the goal.”
Thabang Mahlangu’s winning goal in extra time sealed Amajita’s place in the World Cup and marked a significant milestone for South African football.
The team’s qualification is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and fans are eagerly anticipating their performance in the tournament.
