Springboks Crush The All Blacks In Scintillating Victory In Wellington

The Springboks delivered a stunning performance, completely shutting down the All Blacks in the second half to secure a decisive 43-10 victory in the Rugby Championship at Sky Stadium on Saturday.

After a disappointing 24-17 loss at Eden Park last weekend, the Boks knew they needed to play their best rugby. This comprehensive win puts the Springboks firmly back in contention to reclaim the Rugby Championship title they won last season.

The victory also means the Springboks have retained the Freedom Cup against their storied rivals, following their wins against the All Blacks in both matches last year.

The South Africans were boosted by the return of Jasper Wiese at number eight, who was back from a four-week ban. He was joined by captain Siya Kolisi in his usual role at number six.

Match Breakdown: A Tale of Two Halves

The match began with a frantic, helter-skelter intensity. The Springboks had an early opportunity to score but lost a crucial lineout, an area that has been their Achilles’ heel. Despite early dominance and a disallowed try from RG Snyman, it was the All Blacks who scored first through a converted try by Leroy Carter in the 18th minute, punishing the Boks for their missed opportunities.

However, the Springboks quickly hit back. Cheslin Kolbe intercepted a pass from Billy Proctor and raced from his own half for a spectacular try, a carbon copy of his effort against the same opposition at the same venue in 2018. The score was leveled at 7-7.

The first half continued to be an absorbing contest, with both sides making errors. The Boks lost another try-scoring opportunity to a forward pass. The All Blacks went into the break with a narrow 10-7 lead. The Boks also had to make an injury-enforced change, with Aphelele Fassi stretchered off and replaced by Andre Esterhuizen, which saw Damian Willemse shift to fullback.

The second half, however, was all Springboks. They came out with renewed intensity, leaving the All Blacks rattled. Manie Libbok extended their lead with a penalty, and from there, the floodgates opened. Damian Willemse powered through for his first-ever try against the All Blacks, and the Boks didn’t stop there. Ethan Hooker and Pieter-Steph du Toit combined to set up Kwagga Smith for another try, followed by RG Snyman finally getting his score after being denied earlier.

The Springboks were relentless, with their superior defense completely shutting down the All Blacks. Even try-scoring machine Will Jordan was denied by a brilliant tackle from Grant Williams. The final nail in the coffin came from Andre Esterhuizen, who combined with Damian Willemse for the sixth and final try of the game.

The stellar performances from players like Damian Willemse, who had one of his best games in a Bok jersey when he was playing for the first time in the midfield, and lock Ruan Nortje highlight the team’s depth. This emphatic win sees the Springboks return to the number one spot in the world rankings.
