Sundowns To Decide Buthelezi’s Future Amid Loan Talks

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make a crucial decision regarding the future of their young player Thando Buthelezi.
The 21-year-old, who made his Sundowns debut in the 2022/23 season under coach Rulani Mokwena, has had limited opportunities with the first team.
His sole appearance for the Brazilians came in a 3-1 Nedbank Cup victory over Marumo Gallants, where he played just 12 minutes in March 2023.
Despite being given a long-term contract in September 2023, alongside fellow promising star Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi, Buthelezi’s playing time has been scarce.
According to a source close to the matter, Buthelezi’s representatives will meet with Sundowns this week to discuss his future ahead of the 2025/26 season.
“Thando’s representative will meet Sundowns this week regarding him, but I believe they have a plan to loan him out as well to get much-needed game time,” the source revealed on Sportswire.
Last season, Buthelezi was loaned out to Richards Bay to gain valuable experience, but his stint was cut short in January this year.
During his time with the Natal Rich Boys, Buthelezi made just four appearances across all competitions, including one Carling Knockout Cup match and three Betway Premiership games, starting two and coming on as a substitute in the other two.
