Tau Bids Farewell To Al Ahly

Former Al Ahly attacker Percy Tau has paid tribute to the Egyptian giants, describing his stay as enjoyable and highlighting the club’s impressive trophy haul during his tenure.
Tau has departed the “Club of the Century” to join Qatari side Qatar SC.
However, Tau is joining a club fighting for survival, currently languishing in 11th place in the 12-team league. Qatar SC boasts only one major title in their history, the QSL, and plays in front of a 13,000-capacity crowd at Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha.
Despite their current struggles, Qatar SC boasts a notable presence in former Bayern Munich and Spanish international midfielder Javi Martinez, who joined the club in the 2021/22 season from Germany. Martinez, a nine-time Bundesliga champion and two-time UEFA Champions League winner with Bayern, also lifted the European Championship with Spain.
Another familiar face at the club is Congolese international striker Ben Malango, who has been with the club since 2022. Malango boasts a strong track record, having won the CAF Confederation Cup twice and the CAF Super Cup.
In contrast, Tau brings an impressive trophy cabinet to Qatar SC, having won the CAF Champions League three times, the CAF Super Cup twice, and two Egyptian Premier League titles with Al Ahly.
The club is currently managed by Moroccan international Youssef Safri, who was the runner-up with his country in the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia. Safri, who joined Qatar SC in September last year, previously guided Wydad to the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup title as an assistant coach. Interestingly, Malango scored in that final against JS Kabylie.
Tau’s first game for Qatar SC will be against Al Nasr (not the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Saudi Arabian club) in the Qatar-UAE Super Cup on Friday.
