“Those Talks Really Pushed Me” – Ndlovu

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Siyanda Ndlovu has revealed how criticism surrounding his move to the Brazilians motivated him to improve as a player.
Ndlovu celebrated his second trophy with the Chloorkop-based outfit after Sundowns defeated defending champions Orlando Pirates 2-0 in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
The winger played a role in Sundowns’ second goal after being brought down by Thapelo Mokobodi, earning his side a penalty. Iqraam Rayners subsequently converted from the spot to seal the victory, with Teboho Mokoena having scored the opening goal.
The triumph also marked Ndlovu’s first domestic title of his Premier Soccer League (PSL) career.
When Ndlovu joined Sundowns from Golden Arrows, his decision attracted considerable debate, with some questioning whether he would receive enough game time at a club boasting an abundance of talent.
However, the 23-year-old has explained how the doubts and criticism motivated him to raise his game and improve his performances.
“Those talks really pushed me to compete because Sundowns players have quality,” Ndlovu said.
“I also had to pull up my socks in the right way so I could claim a position. I believe those talks helped me a lot.”
Ndlovu also revealed how he quickly adapted to life at Sundowns, explaining that the club’s style of play was not vastly different from the approach he experienced at Arrows.
“I think adjusting at Sundowns was so easy for me because the football we played at Arrows under coach Manqoba is almost the same as Sundowns’ style of play,” Ndlovu stated.
“So, it made things easier for me to adjust.”
Sundowns remained in Durban as they face Richards Bay in the Betway Premiership at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Tuesday.
