“Three League Titles”: Why Poggenpoel Has Extra Inspiration For Nedbank Cup Final

Durban City midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel will have extra motivation when the Durban-based side faces TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Poggenpoel, who joined City during the off-season from SuperSport United, will have his uncle, Shane Poggenpoel—who won the league title three times with SuperSport United—in the stands.
He also revealed that his family, including his girlfriend, will be in attendance as City aim to make history by claiming their maiden trophy in the PSL.
“Shane won three league titles in a row, and he will be there to support me, along with my parents and my girlfriend,” he said.
“I look forward to making them proud.”
City are seen as the heavy favourites, having defeated Galaxy in both league meetings this season, while the Mpumalanga club has struggled in the second half of the campaign.
They have won only one league match since the Betway Premiership resumed following the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
This run of poor form led to Galaxy parting ways with coach Adnan Beganovic, with Bernard Parker installed as interim coach.
On their way to the final, however, Galaxy beat some big sides, including Marumo Gallants and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Poggenpoel, who will be playing in his first final, remains wary of Galaxy, adding that City themselves have not won in their last four matches.
“The league and the cup are two different kettles of fish,” said Poggenpoel.
“At the end of the day, league form goes out of the window when you get to cup games.
“We haven’t won in the past four matches. May the best team win on Saturday.”
