“Treble” Loading? Pirates Confirm Sell-Out For Final Home Clash As Title Fever Grips Soweto

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that their final home league match of the season, which could potentially see them crowned Betway Premiership champions, has officially sold out ahead of this weekend.
Pirates, who are locked in a fierce title race with Mamelodi Sundowns, will host Durban City — the reigning Nedbank Cup champions — at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.
Fans have quickly snapped up tickets in anticipation of Pirates potentially winning the league title at home for the first time since the 2010/11 season, when they defeated Golden Arrows.
At the time, Pirates were involved in a title battle with Ajax Cape Town, but the Cape side failed to beat Maritzburg United — now known as Durban City — at Cape Town Stadium.
Pirates could secure the league title on Saturday if Sundowns fail to collect maximum points in their final league match against TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday.
Sundowns currently top the table with 68 points from 29 matches, while Pirates are second on 65 points with two games still in hand. However, the Soweto giants boast a superior goal difference of +44 compared to Sundowns’ +37.
That means Sundowns, who beat Siwelele 7-4 at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, would need a massive victory against Galaxy and would still have to hope Pirates fail to win their final two matches.
However, momentum appears to be with Pirates, who have scored five goals in their last two matches without conceding.
If Pirates go on to win the title, it will mark their first league triumph since the 2011/12 season, when they completed a historic treble.
The Buccaneers could also complete another treble this season, having already won the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout earlier in the campaign.
Sundowns, meanwhile, have dominated the league over the past eight seasons, winning every title since the 2017/18 campaign after succeeding Bidvest Wits as champions.
