Truter Backs Himself To Break Chippa Sacking Stigma

Chippa United coach Brandon Truter has backed himself to survive long-term at the club next season, admitting that a notorious managerial revolving door stripped the team of its identity.
Truter became Chippa’s seventh head coach of a chaotic campaign. The Chilli Boyz previously axed Sinethemba Badela, Musa Nyatama, Morgan Mammila, Luc Eymael, Vusi Vilakazi, and Nkosikhona Dikela.
The former Swallows FC tactician, who previously parted ways with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City, replaced Vilakazi with the club’s top-flight status on the line heading into the final game of the season.
However, Truter secured all three points by beating Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium last month. The vital 1-0 victory pushed the Eastern Cape outfit to 13th place, successfully avoiding the promotion/relegation playoffs.
“I’m well aware of Chippa’s history,” said Truter.
“But if you’re a coach and you don’t back yourself and believe in what you can do, you’re always going to be thinking, ‘I don’t want the job,’ and carrying negativity in your mind.
“Right now, I believe I can be a coach who stays here for a long time. The discussions with management, the owners and the family were centred around creating something sustainable and building the brand of the club.
“We don’t want the stigma of being a club that constantly hires and fires coaches. Unfortunately, that record is there, and it’s up to the chairman and the management whether they want to continue with that approach or change it.
“Hopefully, I can be one of the coaches who at least completes a full season at Chippa.”
Truter, who has only overseen one match so far, confirmed the squad will take a short off-season break as he intends to implement a new tactical blueprint ahead of the next campaign.
