Truter Takes Swipe At Chiefs After Guiding Chippa To Safety

Chippa United coach Brandon Truter wasted no time throwing shade at Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, confidently claiming he holds a near-flawless managerial record against Amakhosi.

Sammy Seabi scored the decisive goal at the Moses Mabhida Stadium as Chippa secured their top-flight status and avoided being dragged into the relegation playoffs.

The Chilli Boyz, with Truter becoming the seventh coach to take charge of the club this season, finished 13th on the Betway Premiership table with 28 points from 30 matches.

“In my career as a coach, Chiefs have only beaten me once,” said Truter.

“That was at Dobsonville Stadium [in November 2021 when I was with Moroka Swallows]. It ended 3-1, and I got fired after that game. That was the only time they beat me.

“The record is there, so I didn’t expect anything else. At the time of that result, there was a lot happening behind the scenes.”

However, Truter has in fact lost three times against Chiefs. He also suffered defeats while coaching Sekhukhune United in September 2023 and Richards Bay in November 2024.

In 10 matches against Chiefs, Truter has won four, drawn three and lost three.

Truter, who maintained a 100 percent record with Chippa after taking charge for just one game following the departure of Nkosikhona Dikela, said the club’s work for next season had already begun.

“It was a lengthy discussion with the club,” Truter said about accepting the Chippa job.

“Of course, the discussions were about next season and the start of pre-season. There is no point in coming for just one game. Contractually, I will begin the campaign with the team during pre-season.

“What is important now is establishing the principles, culture and identity of the club because those are things that still need to grow.

“I think one of Chippa’s problems over the years has been the constant changes in coaches. When you look at previous matches, you can see the lack of identity and culture because if you have five coaches in a season, everyone comes with different ideas about how football should be played and how the team should perform. That creates a lot of adjustment for the players.

“Chippa were also one of the teams that did not enter the transfer market during AFCON, so we have to be mindful of the league starting early in August.

“We also have to make sure the players do not suffer burnout or homesickness because we are dealing with human beings.

“At the moment, we are not going home. We are still going into camp, spending a few days training, assessing what we can improve and planning for pre-season.

“There is a lot of work ahead.”
