Austrian club SV Ried has officially announced the signing of South African striker Antonio van Wyk from Stellenbosch.

According to the club, the 22-year-old has signed on a contract until 2026.  

“On the last transfer day, SV Guntamatic Ried fixed the new signing of Antonio Van Wyk,” the club said in a statement. 

“The 22-year-old striker, who also plays for the U23 national team of his home country South Africa, has signed a contract until 2026 in the Innviertel.”  

Managing Director Sport SV Guntamatic Ried Wolfgang Fiala has welcomed the signing of Van Wyk.  

“Antonio van Wyk brings exactly the profile we were looking for after the departure of Belmin Beganovic.  

“He has a very good depth and also has great strengths in playing between the lines. He really wanted to come to Europe and we got precise information from our assistant coach Moritz Kossmann about what makes Toni tick and how he fits in with us.  

“Toni will certainly need a period of acclimatization and we will give him that. With the signing of Van Wyk and the professional contract of Daniel Wimmer, we have taken further steps in our transfer strategy, in which we bring in exciting project players from our academy and from abroad in addition to a core of experienced players who fit exactly with our sporting idea,”  

Van Wyk expressed his excitement about joining SV Ried:: “I am very happy that I was able to sign with SV Guntamatic Ried. I feel like this is a great club to take my first steps in Europe and I promise that I will do my best and hopefully create a positive atmosphere in the club. I’m ready, let’s go!”  

Van Wyk featured in 78 matches in all competitions, scoring six goals along with 11 assists.
