Vilakazi Vows: We Will Not Be Relegated

Chippa United coach Vusi Vilakazi insists the club will not be relegated despite currently sitting bottom of the Betway Premiership table.

The Chilli Boys are battling at the foot of the standings with just seven points from 13 matches. They have recorded eight losses, one win, and four draws since the start of the 2025/26 season.

Their only victory came under former coach Luc Eymael, who was later released due to poor results and replaced by Vilakazi.

The former AmaZulu and Richards Bay mentor remains adamant that Chippa will survive, expressing strong belief in the potential within his squad.

“I know that it is unfortunate that I always come for the teams who are fighting relegation, and I’m expected to do miracles. But what I can say is that I still maintain what I’ve said when I came to Chippa, and I said that Chippa will never go down,” said Vilakazi.

“They will never be relegated. The reason I’m saying that it’s because of the potential that is there in these players, and obviously, we needed to align a few areas in terms of aligning the psychological part in terms of believing in ourselves.

“We’ve got good young stars, we’ve got [Asanele] Bonani, who nearly scored a goal. He never played in the PSL. He was playing for DDC, and he’s the leading goal scorer, so once you give them that confidence and they believe in themselves, they would do wonders. With such performance, hard work, and commitment, I strongly believe that we will do wonders going forward, and we will save this team.”

With the PSL transfer window opening in January, there is a chance for Vilakazi to strengthen his squad, but he insists he is satisfied with the players he has.

“I’m not worried about the window. When I took the job, I knew what I was walking into and I understood the players. Fortunately, I’ve worked with half of them before,” he said.

“So I’m confident this squad can survive. If we talk about next season—setting targets and not fighting relegation—that’s a different conversation.

“But for now, I’m happy and comfortable with the players we have. Maybe the window will allow us to release a few, but I’m not concerned about signing new players or bringing in more experience. I’m comfortable with this squad.”
