Willie le Roux At Flyhalf To Face Zebre

The Vodacom Bulls have significantly reshaped their matchday 23 for Saturday’s VURC fixture against Zebre, introducing a mix of strategic rotations and high-impact positional shifts.

The most notable change comes in the backline, where Willie le Roux moves from the bench into the starting line-up at flyhalf, replacing Handre Pollard, who drops to the bench. In the back three, the Vodacom Bulls add fresh firepower with Kurt-Lee Arendse returning at fullback and Cheswill Jooste earning a start on the wing, while Canan Moodie shifts from wing to outside centre.

In the pack, the front row has been completely revamped from the side that faced the Dragons. Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Marco van Staden move from the bench into the starting XV at loosehead prop and hooker respectively, alongside the powerful Wilco Louw at tighthead prop.

Elsewhere in the forwards, JF van Heerden earns a start in the second row in place of Ruan Nortje, while Ruan Vermaak slots into the other lock position.

Captain Marcell Coetzee remains a key figure in the loose trio but shifts to blindside flank, allowing Jeandre Rudolph to start at openside flank. Cameron Hanekom retains his place at No 8.

A fresh halfback pairing of Paul de Wet and Willie le Roux will steer the attack, with the experienced duo of Embrose Papier and Handre Pollard set to provide impact off the bench. Papier is also poised to make his 170th appearance for the Vodacom Bulls, surpassing Joost van der Westhuizen as the franchise’s most-capped scrumhalf of all time.

Joost van der Westhuizen’s record had stood for over two decades, emphasizing the magnitude of Papier’s milestone.

In midfield, Harold Vorster retains his place at inside centre and will partner Canan Moodie in a dynamic new-look combination.

The bench for this weekend features several players who started against the Dragons, including the formidable front-row trio of Johan Grobbelaar, Gerhard Steenekamp and Francois Klopper.

They are joined by Cobus Wiese, who shifts to the bench to provide lock cover and ensure the Bulls maintain their physical edge in the closing stages of the match.
