Zwane Not Worried About AmaZulu’s Attack

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane has dismissed concerns about his team’s striking department despite their failure to score against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Following a 2-0 loss at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday, Zwane stated that it is too early in the season to be worried.

The defeat to Sundowns leaves Usuthu in eighth place with three points after two games in the 2025/26 season.

After finishing sixth last season, AmaZulu has had an inconsistent start to the new campaign, but Zwane is confident that things will improve.

“Like you said, it’s too early to be worried,” said Zwane.

“You know the worst part at this time of the season is when you don’t create goal-scoring opportunities at all, then you become worried. So at least we’ve got a department that we need to deal with specificity, where we say finishing, look at our finishing.

“So it will come, definitely, I have no doubts, we just need to polish certain things. Do a lot of repetitions in terms of how we want to play and take advantage in games like this.

“Like I said, we had a lot of turnovers for us and them, and being consistent because from the first half we were going to hurt Sundowns because they were pushing the line. That is what we wanted, to push high, and then we get the space.

“So that’s where the game was, you look at the disadvantages and the advantages of the opposition, how they apply themselves, and take it from there. It’s a case of application.”

Zwane noted that playing against a strong team like Sundowns early in the season is a valuable learning experience for his players.

“It’s actually good; you can’t choose games,” Zwane stated. “Even if after Sundowns we’re playing another formidable side, it’s always going to be good for us. That’s the only way our players can learn at this level.”

AmaZulu will now shift their focus to their next match against Marumo Gallants at Princess Magogo Stadium on 20 August.
