Seoposenwe Ready For Third Place Battle Against Ghana

Banyana Banyana striker Jermaine Seoposenwe has acknowledged that the third-place playoff match against Ghana in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will be a challenging encounter, but she is confident that her team can regroup and achieve a positive outcome.

The match is scheduled to take place this Friday evening at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Morocco, with kickoff at 21:00.

Seoposenwe’s comments come after Banyana Banyana’s semifinal loss to Nigeria, where they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

The 2022 African champions will be without key player Gabriela Salgado, who sustained a serious injury in the semifinal match and is expected to be out for the entire year.

Despite this setback, Seoposenwe believes that her team can still make an impact in the tournament.

“Definitely it’s going to be difficult, and we need to be mentally prepared,” Seoposenwe said.

“But at the end of the day, we have to work hard and continue to play our games, continue to achieve something in this tournament for our team, Gabby (Gabriela Salgado), and for the people in South Africa.”

Seoposenwe drew on the team’s previous experience against Ghana, whom they had faced in the opening game of the group stages in Group C and beaten 2-0.

She believes that this experience can give them an edge in the upcoming match.

“We played Ghana in the group stages, and I think as a group, we are confident in our abilities and what we are capable of,” she said.

“It will be difficult, but I think as a team, we will regroup, and hopefully, we can achieve something.”

The winner of the match will be ranked third in the tournament, and both teams will be looking to end their campaign on a high note.

Ghana, which lost to Morocco in the semifinals on penalties after a 1-1 draw, will be eager to bounce back and secure a podium finish.

The WAFCON tournament will conclude on Saturday, when Nigeria faces Morocco in the final at Olympic Stadium Rabat at 22:00.

Morocco will be playing in the final for the second time in a row, having lost to Banyana Banyana in the 2022 edition.
