Nabi Urges Consistency From Mdu
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has called for consistent performances from Mdu Shabalala while acknowledging the immense pressure the young player carries as a key figure for the club.
Shabalala scored a spectacular goal against Chippa United in the Betway Premiership match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, leaving four defenders bewildered before unleashing a powerful shot at the near post to beat Stanley Nwabali in goals.
This crucial victory ended Chiefs’ three-match winless streak and provided a positive end to 2024, moving them into the top eight of the league with 15 points from 10 matches.
Shabalala’s goal against Chippa solidifies his position as Chiefs’ leading scorer in the league with four goals, one ahead of teammate Ranga Chivaviro.
“I don’t like to single out individual players because I believe in team spirit and a collective mindset,” Nabi said after the match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“Shabalala has been good, but not consistent. We feel that he carries a lot of responsibility on his shoulders for such a big team like Kaizer Chiefs and that sometimes puts lots of pressure on him.
“That’s why sometimes he is good and not good, but he is still young. We want to congratulate him [for scoring a winning goal], we can see that he has to be consistent level. We feel the other youngsters should take an example on him.”
Chiefs will look to carry this momentum into 2025 when they face Cape Town City at DHL Stadium on 5 January.
