Kaizer JR Motaung: It Would Be Foolish If We Don’t Bring New Players In
Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Jr Motaung has revealed to the club’s fans that it would be madness if they don’t bring in any new players during this January transfer window.
Speaking to the media on Thursday ahead of their Sunday clash with Sekhukhune United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, Motaung emphasized that the club is actively engaged with the technical team to inject fresh blood into the squad.
The PSL transfer window, which opened earlier this month, closes on 25 January, leaving Chiefs with limited time to strengthen a team that has been inconsistent this season.
Amakhosi, who have been linked with Oswin Appollis from Polokwane City in the past, are yet to make any signings this window, despite growing pressure to catch up with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
“I think it is always a sensitive topic (when you talk about transfers) because we would love as a team to be transparent and speak to the people,” said Motaung.
“I want to take away that the club is not doing anything, the club is not respecting the supporters, they are everything to us.
“We do it everything for them and it would be foolish for us not to be doing anything in this window. We got to respect the players that we do have, give them confidence for them to do the job on the field.
“We are very much aware of the areas that we need to strengthen. We are working tirelessly every day with the technical staff, and with management to make sure that we make the right decisions.
“We have obviously engaged with many clubs, with many players. But it will be very disrespectful to come out and speak about other clubs’ players.
“I know people wants to know information, they want to know about the progress, we would love to share that. For us now saying anything, it is us not respecting anybody, it’s us not being negative or us sitting in the office doing nothing.
“If I sit outside and speak about everything, a single player from different teams, I will be doing a bit of disservice to the management of other teams and the players.
“We have to respect our colleagues. Our stakeholders, our sponsors, we are doing everything we can to make sure that in certain areas we strengthen the team and we are taking every step that we can.”
