Zwane Appointed AmaZulu Head Coach After Vilakazi Departure

AmaZulu has officially appointed Arthur Zwane as the club’s head coach following the confirmed departure of Vusi Vilakazi due to “severe” personal issues, as previously reported by Sportswire.
Vilakazi, who served as co-head coach, has resigned with immediate effect citing personal reasons.
In an official statement released by AmaZulu, “Vilakazi referred to personal matters which require his urgent attention, making it impossible for him to fully commit to his responsibilities at the club.”
Recognizing the untenable situation, club president Sandile Zungu has accepted Vilakazi’s resignation, effective immediately.
This transition leaves Zwane as the sole head coach moving forward.
In a farewell message to Vilakazi, Zungu stated, “On behalf of the entire Usuthu family—players, technical and administrative personnel, supporters, and board members—we wish Mpiyakhe all the best in his future endeavors.”
Sportswire has spoken with Vilakazi, who expressed his gratitude for the well wishes and pledged to return stronger.
Vilakazi was appointed co-coach in October last year, transitioning from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team to work alongside Zwane.
At the time of their appointment, AmaZulu was at the bottom of the league table, having lost all three opening matches under former coach Pablo Franco Martin.
Zwane will now lead AmaZulu as they return to action against Cape Town City, coached by Zwane’s former mentor Muhsin Ertugral, in the Betway Premiership at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday (15:30).
