AmaZulu To Release Vilakazi Due To “Deep Issues”

AmaZulu is expected to release an official statement on Wednesday confirming the departure of co-coach Vusi Vilakazi, citing serious personal issues that the club deemed unmanageable.
According to sources, Vilakazi, who joined the club in October last year, is allegedly to have deep issues, purportedly to be addicted.
These allegations surfaced after AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu intervened following a few bad results. He addressed the entire team, threatening disciplinary action if the underlying issues were not addressed.
The president’s intervention prompted players to reveal the alleged misconduct, fearing job security at the end of the season. They claimed Vilakazi favored players who complied with his demands.
A source confirmed that president Zungu determined the situation to be untenable, leading to Vilakazi’s immediate departure.
“There will be an official statement from the club on Wednesday,” President Zungu told Sportswire.
The alleged deep issue reportedly began during Vilakazi’s tenure as co-coach at Golden Arrows, alongside Mabhuti Khenyeza. While the club was aware of the issue, attempts to address it were unsuccessful. Sources indicate that Golden Arrows chairperson Mato Madlala attempted to assist Vilakazi, but these efforts proved futile.
AmaZulu became aware of the situation after Vilakazi’s appointment in October, by which point contractual obligations prevented immediate termination. Now, with Vilakazi’s alleged admission to management, the club has decided to part ways.
AmaZulu has expressed a willingness to support Vilakazi in seeking help, though they have not specified how. Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding Vilakazi’s alleged misconduct.
Vilakazi, who previously coached Richards Bay, joined AmaZulu from the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team, partnering with Arthur Zwane as co-coaches following the dismissal of Pablo Franco Martin.
Despite a challenging start, with three consecutive losses, the co-coaches guided AmaZulu to fifth place in the Betway Premiership with 26 points from 19 matches. This improvement included a 3-0 victory over Magesi FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium last weekend.
Arthur Zwane will now serve as the sole head coach, leading AmaZulu against Cape Town City at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday (15:30).
