“Induna Yendawo” Departs: Chiefs Terminate Cele’s Contract
Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of Thabo Cele, with both parties mutually agreeing to terminate his contract.
Cele’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season, meaning Chiefs likely agreed to a settlement payout to release the midfielder early.
Joined at Naturena midway through the 2024/25 season [January 2025], Cele was deemed surplus to requirements by Amakhosi coach Fernando Da Cruz during the recent off-season.
Having been frozen out and failing to make an appearance this season, both parties agreed to part ways.
“Kaizer Chiefs have terminated Thabo Cele’s contract by mutual agreement, following constructive discussions between both parties,” read a club statement.
“The decision will allow Cele to pursue new opportunities while Amakhosi continue to reshape their squad for the 2026/27 season. We thank ‘Induna Yendawo’ for his commitment during his time at Kaizer Chiefs and wish him the very best in his future career.”
Cele leaves Chiefs with a Nedbank Cup winner’s medal after helping Amakhosi defeat Orlando Pirates during the 2025/26 campaign under former coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The KwaMashu-born midfielder spent seven years playing in Portugal (including spells at Real SC, Cova da Piedade, and Radomiak Radom in Poland), bringing extensive international experience to Naturena.
He leaves the club having featured in 36 matches across all competitions during his 18-month stint at the club.
