Shalulile’s Strike Down Usuthu As Downs Extend The Lead

Mamelodi Sundowns extended their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership with a 2-0 victory over AmaZulu at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday night.  

Peter Shalulile opened the scoring in the second half, capitalizing on a mistake by AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa. This was Shalulile’s sixth goal of the season.

The win puts Sundowns on 58 points after 22 matches, 18 points clear of Orlando Pirates, who were held to a frustrating draw by Stellenbosch on the same night.

Shalulile’s goal came in the 51st minute. With Mothwa out of position, Shalulile managed to score despite losing his footing.

This was Shalulile’s 127th goal in all competitions in the PSL, leaving him just two goals behind all-time leading scorer Siyabonga Nomvethe.

While AmaZulu created some chances, Arthur Sales secured the victory for Sundowns in the 87th minute with a second goal, turning past several defenders in the AmaZulu box and on the floor before drilling across the goal.

Sundowns appear to be cruising to another league title, and it will take a significant effort to stop them. Their next match is against second-placed Pirates at FNB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
