Maart Unsure About His Future At Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has expressed uncertainty about his future with the club, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current season.
Maart joined Chiefs in July 2022 from Sekhukhune United and has played in 30 matches across all competitions for the Glamour Boys this season, contributing two goals and three assists.
The 29-year-old captain is expected to lead the team when Amakhosi host their Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, at the FNB Stadium on Saturday at 15:00.
“For me personally, everything is in the Almighty’s hands,” Maart stated. “Every player, every person, even you in the media, doesn’t know what the next step in their future holds.”
He added, “So, personally, I leave everything in the Almighty’s hands, and I will accept whatever comes my way.”
Sekhukhune, Maart’s former club, is reportedly interested in re-signing him, as he showcased his best form there, which ultimately led to his move to Chiefs.
However, since joining the Naturena-based club, Maart has faced criticism from some Chiefs fans who would reportedly be happy to see him depart at the end of the season.
Despite this, it is possible that Chiefs are still keen on retaining Maart for the foreseeable future.
When asked if he desires to stay at the club beyond this season, Maart responded, “It depends on what the Almighty has in store for me, not on my personal decision. If the team offers me a new contract, I will go where the Almighty leads me at the end of the day.”
He further explained, “Because I pray a lot, I entrust the Almighty to place me where I feel it is a worthwhile opportunity for me.”
Nevertheless, Maart indicated his preference, saying, “Of course, your desire is to play for a big team. I am already here, so if the team offers me a stay, I will stay because it’s a big team.”
He continued, “But if things outside where you feel you will be comfortable and feel ‘This is a challenge for me, I can go for it’.
“But like I have said, if the Almighty put things where you need to decide for yourself and what is the challenge now next, I will take it.”
Since he arrived at Chiefs, Maart has featured in 90 matches in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. Notably, one of these goals came against Pirates in the Soweto Derby during the 2022/23 season under coach Arthur Zwane.
