The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that the crash of the ticket sales system on Monday was due to overwhelming fan interest in the Nedbank Cup final between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Tickets for the highly anticipated match, scheduled for Saturday at 15:30 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, went on sale to the public on Monday at 10:00.

Eager fans queued at supermarket stores nationwide, some arriving early in the morning, only to find that the system had crashed, leading to widespread frustration.

Some fans reported having paid for tickets but were unable to receive them. However, the PSL has assured those who successfully purchased tickets but did not receive them that they will be refunded accordingly.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, “Open Tickets” addressed the situation: “Open Tickets regrets the disruption experienced by fans during the ticket sales for the 2025 Nedbank Cup Final.

“An unprecedented surge in demand caused system delays shortly after sales opened on Monday, 5 May 2025.

“We understand the frustration this has caused and are urgently addressing the matter. A full report will be submitted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

“Affected customers will receive direct communication regarding ticket status, digital reissues, or refunds where applicable.

“We remain committed to resolving the issue and restoring full service as quickly as possible.

“Further updates will be shared via our official platforms. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

At this time, the number of tickets sold for the final remains unclear. However, once the system issue is resolved, the remaining tickets are still expected to sell out rapidly.
