Adams Reacts To Winning Maiden League Title With Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has reflected on lifting his first-ever league title with the Brazilians, just four months after joining the South African champions on a high-profile move from Stellenbosch FC.

The dynamic midfielder signed for the Tshwane giants in the January transfer window, putting pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Chloorkop until June 2028, to end a four-and-a-half-year stay with the Cape Winelands outfit.

Since joining Masandawana, Adams has made 25 appearances across all competitions with four goals scored and two assists provided in the process. Overall, in this campaign, the 24-year-old played 47 matches with 10 goal contributions.

Having tasted league success in his debut season at Sundowns, the Bafana international dedicated the achievement to his family and friends, including former Stellies teammate Oswin Andries, who sadly passed away in February 2023 after a fatal knife attack.

“It’s a nice feeling for me to achieve this in only six months since coming here. This one goes to my family, my friends, everyone there, back in Cape Town, in Stellenbosch, Kayamandi, Idas Valley. It’s a nice achievement for me and many more to come,” said Adams.

“Obviously, everything I win goes to him, Oswin Andries, and I would like to dedicate this moment to his family also.”

With their domestic dominance maintained, the Brazilians will now shift their focus to returning continental glory to Chloorkop and become the only club from South Africa to lift more than one CAF Champions League title.

“It’s a tough one for us, playing every single week like three games in a row, but the preparation in the recovery is important for us. We won the league now, and we can now focus on the CAF Champions League final,” the ex-Stellenbosch player added.

Miguel Cardoso’s men will square off against mega-rich Egyptian outfit Pyramids FC in the two-legged Champions League final, with the first meeting scheduled for 24 May in the capital before a return clash in Cairo on 1 June.
