Broos Names Pirates Defender As Bafana Bafana Captain

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has been named captain of the Bafana Bafana squad set to play two friendly matches against Tanzania and Mozambique this month.
This appointment comes as Bafana Bafana’s regular captain, Ronwen Williams, is unavailable for these fixtures due to his club Mamelodi Sundowns’ participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. With Williams ruled out, coach Hugo Broos was left without a captain, though he hinted at a press conference on Monday that Sibisi might lead the side.
Bafana Bafana has now officially confirmed on social media that the former Golden Arrows defender, who is a strong contender for the PSL Defender of the Season award, will indeed lead the team in these two friendly encounters.
“Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced that Nkosinathi Sibisi will be captain during the international friendlies against Tanzania on Friday, 6 June 2025, and Mozambique on Tuesday, 10 June 2025. Peter Mokaba Stadium will host both,” read the official statement.
Initially, the match against Mozambique was planned to take place at Loftus Versfeld, four days after the Tanzania game, but the venue has now been changed. The South African Football Association (SAFA) did not confirm the reason for this change.
