Magesi Release 10 Players, Including Former Pirates Midfielder

Magesi has announced the departure of ten players, including former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Gift Motupa, following a challenging first half of the season that saw them finish 13th in the Betway Premiership.

This significant squad overhaul comes despite the club’s success in gaining promotion 2023/24 season to the top flight and winning their maiden Carling Knockout trophy last term.

Among the notable players released are former Maritzburg United winger Deolin Mekoa, former Orlando Pirates midfielder Ntsako Makhubela, and former Chippa United and AmaZulu striker Rhulani Manzini.

The full list of departing players confirmed by the club includes:

  • Gift Motupa
  • Neverdie Makhubela
  • Deolin Mekoa
  • Rhulani Manzini
  • Amos Mokwena
  • Boikanyo Komane
  • Maboke Matlakala
  • Anathi Ngwadla
  • Given Mashikinya
  • Menzi Ndwandwe

In an official statement, Magesi FC said, “Magesi Football Club confirms the departure of the following players ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. Magesi thanks the abovementioned individuals for their contribution and wishes them all the best in their respective endeavors.”

The club is also currently without a head coach. Owen da Gama, who took over from Clinton Larsen in December, has also left after failing to agree on a new deal for the upcoming season. Da Gama is reportedly set to join Durban City.

Magesi indicated that “further structural changes in preparation for the upcoming season will be announced in due course.”
