Durban City Poised To Sign Poggenpoel

Durban City is closing in on the signing of midfielder Brooklyn Poggenpoel, who played for SuperSport United last season, Sportswire has learned.
Poggenpoel, currently training with City, will be reuniting with his former coach Gavin Hunt, who was appointed by the Durban-based side last week.
Hunt originally signed Poggenpoel from Chippa United at the start of last season, with the midfielder featuring in 22 matches across all competitions for the Tshwane team. However, Hunt was dismissed in March after the club endured a tough period, narrowly avoiding relegation.
Like Hunt, Poggenpoel is moving on after SuperSport sold its status a few weeks ago to Siwelele Football Club in Bloemfontein. Interestingly, Hunt won three league titles with Poggenpoel’s uncle, Shane, a tenacious midfielder at SuperSport, between 2008 and 2010.
Hunt, who replaced Simo Dladla after he led City to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last term, has been reunited with former players at the Durban-based side.
He’s already signed Thabang Sibanyoni, released by Mamelodi Sundowns last term, who previously worked with Hunt at Bidvest Wits.
Hunt has also brought in Haashim Domingo and Darren Keet, both of whom left Cape Town City at the end of last season. Keet won the league with Hunt in the 2016/17 season, while Domingo joined the Clever Boys later in Hunt’s tenure.
City has also added former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Rowan Fernandez as the club’s goalkeeper coach. Hunt and Fernandez previously worked together at SuperSport, winning the Nedbank Cup in the 2011/12 season.
As reported by this website on Tuesday, City has parted ways with Ruzaigh Gamilden and Joslin Kamatuka, two key players in the club’s promotion last term. They have been deemed surplus to requirements by Hunt.
