Chiefs Clinch Hard-Fought Win Over Polokwane City

Kaizer Chiefs secured their second consecutive win in the Betway Premiership, beating Polokwane City 1-0 at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Amakhosi had started the season on a high note, winning their opening match 2-0 against Stellenbosch on Sunday.

The game got off to a promising start for Chiefs, with the Phefeni Glamour Boys creating numerous scoring opportunities in the first 20 minutes.

However, they were unable to capitalize on their chances, with Glody Lilepo hitting the crossbar with a great header in the 38th minute after receiving a cross from Gaston Sirino.

Lilepo had also come close to scoring earlier in the game, with a great shot from outside the box saved by Polokwane City’s Kenyan goalkeeper Brian Bwire in the 27th minute.

The first half ended goalless, with neither team able to find the back of the net.

In the second half, Chiefs made an early substitution, introducing Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to strengthen their midfield.

The introduction of Ngcobo had an immediate impact, with Chiefs starting the second half strongly and creating several scoring opportunities.

In the 64th minute, coach Khalil Ben Youssef made two more substitutions, introducing Siphesihle Ndlovu and Pule Mmodi in search of the opening goal.

The move paid off, as Ndlovu scored his first goal for the club in the 79th minute, assisted by Reeve Frosler.

After taking the lead, Chiefs continued to put pressure on Polokwane City’s defense, but were unable to add to their tally.

The win sees Chiefs sitting in second position in the league table with six points.

Their next game will be against Richards Bay next Tuesday, while Polokwane City will face Siwelele on the same day.
