Kaze Urges Caution Amidst Winning Start
Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has cautioned against overexcitement following the team’s second consecutive league win, despite the impressive display against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
Amakhosi came into the game on the back of a 2-0 win against Stellenbosch in Cape Town over the weekend.
“We’re indeed confident, but I will say that we need to temper the excitement because it’s only the second game of the season and there’s still 28 games to go,” Kaze said.
“I think we have a long way to go and a lot of things to work on. But I think we look more like a team than before in everything, we are there as a team and we help each other, and that’s what we need to notice this season.”
The 45-year-old Burundian mentor emphasized the importance of fairness within the team, particularly in dealing with the large squad.
“I will say that when you have such a big group, the most important thing, as well as coming from the technical staff, is the fairness,” he added.
“If the players feel you’re fair to everyone, then they will trust that if their moment comes, they will get their chances because the technical staff is fair.”
The former Young Africans assistant coach highlighted the efforts made by the coaching staff to involve all players, including those on the bench and in the stands.
“We try to involve everyone, even those who are on the stands, we try to talk with them every day to show them that this is a long season with a lot of games to play in the league, Nedbank Cup, Carling Knockout Cup, and CAF Confederation Cup, and everyone is going to get a chance.”
The win against Polokwane has seen Chiefs sitting in second position in the log with six points, level on goal difference with league leaders Durban City, who occupy the top spot due to alphabetical order.
Chiefs’ next league game will be against Richards Bay at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, with the visitors seeking their first win of the season after consecutive losses to Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows.
