Sundowns Announces Lorch’s Departure

Mamelodi Sundowns has announced that Thembinkosi Lorch has left the club. He is reportedly on his way to join Wydad Casablanca in Morocco, where he spent last season on loan.
The 32-year-old had joined Sundowns in January 2024 from Orlando Pirates. While at Wydad, Lorch was reunited with coach Rulani Mokwena in the second half of the season.
He was part of the squad that competed in the FIFA Club World Cup, playing in all competitions and scoring one goal against Juventus. Wydad faced top clubs like Old Lady, Manchester City, and Al-Ain in the tournament.
Sundowns expressed their gratitude to the player, stating, “After two unforgettable years, a league title, 26 appearances, seven goals, and four assists, the Yellow Nation thanks and celebrates Thembinkosi Lorch. Wishing you all the best as you start the next chapter of your journey.”
During his time at Sundowns, Lorch won the league title in the 2023/24 season. He was one of the scorers in the 5-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs that sealed the title with six games to spare. In that match, Given Msimango was sent off in the 19th minute for a tackle on Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
