Sibisi Aims To Retain MTN8 Title

Orlando Pirates defender Nkosinathi Sibisi says that they are aiming to retain the MTN8 title when they face Stellenbosch in the final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

This encounter marks a repetition of last season, following the Pirates’ controversial 3-1 victory in the final.

Sibisi, who has been out due to an injury, will be looking to lift this trophy for the fourth consecutive time and the first time as the captain of the team.

The center back, who the club recently handed the captain’s armband, has only played two matches since the start of the 2025/26 season due to an injury.

Speaking to the media, Sibisi expressed that this is a type of tournament they enjoy playing, highlighting that the past three consecutive titles under Jose Riveiro are a testament to that.

“For us, I speak for the whole group, it’s the competition we really enjoy playing,” said Sibisi.

“I think the results have shown for the past three years, but we’re going to do it for the fourth time, and I’ve mentioned before, even the tournament started to say it is the feeling we don’t want to let go.”

The Bafana Bafana defender further confirmed that this is their trophy and will fight to keep it on Saturday.

The game will be played in front of a capacity crowd after tickets were sold within the space of 20 minutes.  

“So, on Saturday, we will do by all means to try and retain our trophy, it’s our trophy, so we have to fight,” Sibisi added.
