Kaze Provides Injury Update On Ighodaro And Others

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has provided a positive update on the injury status of newly signed striker Etiosa Ighodaro, who is yet to make his debut for Amakhosi.
Speaking after their victory against Kabuscorp in the second leg of the first preliminary round in the CAF Confederation Cup at FNB Stadium, Kaze revealed that the medical department of Amakhosi promised them good things about Ighodaro.
“Ighodaro has been injured, but the medical department promised us good things,” Kaze said.
“He started this week to train with all players and didn’t get any contact at training. But we hope that after the international break, he will be ready to play.”
The Chiefs coach’s comments come as a relief to fans who have been eagerly awaiting Ighodaro’s debut.
The striker is one of the few new strikers yet to feature for Amakhosi, with Flavio Silva and Khanyisa Mayo already making their mark. Mayo has already scored, and Silva has also found the back of the net twice, but Ighodaro’s injury has kept him sidelined.
However, Kaze’s optimism about Ighodaro’s recovery is tempered by concerns about the registration status of their new signings in the CAF competition.
When asked about the availability of Mayo, Lebohang Maboe, and Ighodaro for their next CAF game, Kaze revealed that the trio will miss that game as they have yet to be registered in the CAF.
“If I’m not mistaken, I will say that Mayo will not play until the group stage and even Ighodaro and Maboe as well,” he added.
“But I have no doubt the other players would probably help the team, like Velebayi, as well as Paseko Mako, Thabiso Monyane, and Siphesihle Ndlovu, who were injured, and even Ethan Chislet, surely he will be available in the next round.”
Chiefs will face the winner of the tie between DR Congo’s AS Simba and Djabel from Comoros in the second preliminary round.
The Congolese side won the first leg 1-0 at home, and the second leg will determine Amakhosi’s opponents for a spot in the group stage.
